I still don't enjoy it, though some of the techniques shown off (particularly on cello) are quite interesting. I often wonder why there isn't more contemporary music for brass but then I think it is incorporated in many star players' repertoire.
On Thursday I spent half an hour with Matt watching him play, and I noticed his embouchure really didn't change all that much. I'm doing a lot of low note work and watching for any odd movements as I play. I noticed I have a tendency to twich my chin just after beginning a note and I'm trying to remove this bad habit; I think it's giving me a more direct sound, almost unpleasantly like a trombone, but hopefully temporary and heading in the right direction.
I hadn't been doing so much practise before band this week and it showed in my lesson. My playing was generally weak and uneven, and although in Estrellita I played stronger D wanted it smoother. The study could also be better but we moved on to number 12 and David asked me to work on evenness of sound and rhythm.
D also said he'd be happy for me to enter the Radio 2 competition, and Concert Gallop and Estrellita would be good pieces to use. I need to find a pianist, and a piano part for Concert Gallop, then get some help recording them.
