Adults don't normally persecute nerds. This is not true. There's a veneer of often work or societally enforced politeness/restraint which stops the athletic ones from dangling the nerdy ones in puddles, and it's a subtler definition of persecute, but given the opportunity stupid sporty adults will happily torment puny nerdy adults. What happens more is that the two factions find ways of not associating with each other any more, thus removing the opportunity.
