I used to read Penelope Trunk, but got turned off her by differences of opinion. However, her recent tweet on miscarrying, and various articles that stemmed from it, were awesome. @pennyred on twitter's was a great defense, as was penelope's herself. Anyhoo. I flicked on to some links, and here I find her brief post on Aspergers. And damn, that is interesting to me. Because I think I had to learn a lot of societal rules systematically, too - which is why studying drama and english language was so useful to me.
I'm not saying I have Aspergers. Just that I can relate, and I find it interesting.

I have an acquaintance who studies autism and socialization. Aspergers, as you may know, may be disappearing as a diagnosis.
(there's a proposal to combine it with "autism" to make "autism spectrum disorder". The article also goes into the difficulties with judging the "severity" of these neurological differences, as well as some of the general changes they're making to the DSM.)

It does look like the amalgamation into one set of problems will help with the study of those problems, and hopefully improve people's lives wrt treatment even in the short term (qualifying for benefits)
...I'm just repeating that article, but hey, I'm tired.
Yeah, stuff.
