Ten police forces in the UK have begun testing mobile fingerprint readers which will check fingerprints against a central database. The system is to be trialed for a year by police in Essex, Hertfordshire, Lancashire, North Wales, Northamptonshire, West Midlands and West Yorkshire, as well as by British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police. When police in these areas stop motorists and ask for a means of verifying their identity they may ask the motorist to volunteer for a fingerprint check to compare their print against those in the police database. If the motorist declines the offer then the police officer may arrest the individual, resulting in their fingerprints and DNA being taken at the police station. Another interesting use of the word "voluntary".
How is your "solution" going to solve anything? Having an ID card to be checked in the shops doesn't mean you can't leave the school. Are you planning on getting the police to spot-check children? What a lovely society that would be... And if it's seriously like, a huge problem, why isn't there anyone positioned on the gates to stop people leaving? Have you tried fixing the fences? Why don't you have different coloured ties depending on age?
...Also, what's so wrong about children grouping together? So it happens to be on street corners, is that the end of the world? Gods. If you piss them off by splitting them apart, are they any more likely to be respectful to adults? Humm, I wonder why they wouldn't.
I heard a radio program (in a charity shop today) talking about some killers. No-one on the show was condoning what had been done, but some of the callers were outraged because they were talking about what could be done to prevent such attacks happening again, by working out what had caused them in the first place. One message I particularly liked said, how can you do even give this issue airtime, have you thought about what the family must be feeling listening to you talking about sympathy for the killers?
... I would imagine the family of the victim wouldn't be listening. They may just have better things to do.
And the idea that kids these days are just evil... how is it that a couple of generations ago everyone was reasonably trusting and reasonably trustworthy, yet now we're turning out kids whose "hearts are black", who were just born bad?
... Stupidest damn stuff I ever heard. What's worse is, a couple of the older folk in the shop were agreeing.
Click here if you believe kids can be better than that...
Another interesting idea.
Speaking of fingerprinting... (1) (2)
Hoorah for GPs who care about our privacy
And a different kind of privacy
Petition about fingerprinting in schools - governors deserve information. Not much, but please sign anyway.
Amusing
Interesting one about floodlighting and energy use.
Atheism... I'm a bright, by the way....
I didn't realise post-grads couldn't get student loans?
Um. Freedom of Information Act. Is that the one where you can find out what they've got on you?
Here's an interesting one about older british-born folk
I do wonder how many spoiled votes there are?
man, that site is a pretty interesting read... one 14 year-old wants the PM to bring in ID cards so that he can buy video games for 11year olds... I didn't even know there was an 11year old rating...
Other people want him to single-handedly end climate change, let people ignore all the "absurd" laws they choose, tell Iceland off about tehir fishing habits... dear lord... there's a fascinating one titled "turn britain into a democracy" which, apparently, means getting rid of the house of lords... myself i would've thought that a good idea, up until someone explained that, as the lords aren't elected, they don't have to worry about what people think of them, so they can generally think more about what's actually best for the country... i like the idea of people in power doing that, oddly enough. plus they've voted against ID cards, which clearly makes them decent people... This one's a little better :)
