so in the uk if you want reusable pads there are these or moonmamas. moonmamas look like the better design to me but are sold out. grr.
*sigh* or these, but they're more expensive. oh, or these at treehuggermums.

i'm bleeding at the moment and i don't know if it's that, but i really want a nap.

Edit: I was going to add a link to a moonmammas outlet or some such, but i can't find the site i originally saw them on and what looks like their main site isn't loading. so, here is a comparison of many cloth pads, which is useful in that it also points out the expense of ordering from the USA. (though i'm still a bit tempted by gladrags, who are very straightforward about what you will need while also having awesome funky patterns... i am also amused that they share their name with a ladies fashion store/wedding specialist).

EDIT the 2nd: I actually really like the look of these at Ella's house. They're minimum £5 each so I might buy just one or two to try. It might be worth remembering the site when I have kids though :)

Have you tried a mooncup? I've heard good things about them but keep forgetting to buy one.

Yes I have, and I've been thinking of posting about that for a while. I love the idea of something reusable, and the mooncup was the first thing I found, but it didn't work for me. Not that it didn't work exactly, but I never got into the habit of using it because it was difficult and vaguely unpleasant.

I've never been the type to use tampons because I have trouble putting stuff up myself, essentially, and the mooncup is pretty wide. You have to kind of fold it up, fit it up there, and twist it round so it's snug. Then reverse the process to empty it; this was really uncomfortable (and messy, which, yeah, slightly different issue - I've no problem with blood in my pants but I don't like it on the floor) the few times I tried it, though admittedly a lot of people say it takes a while to get used to... I decided it wasn't worth acquiring the taste, and switched straight back to pads, and feeling lazy and guilty.

So. Reusable pads would be awesome. I just need to decide how much I can spend, how many I need, and whether the colour matters ;)

Yeah, I think the one thing I have against trying it is I don't understand how you get it out without spillage if you have to fold it to get it in.

I've used mine once and boiled it since, so if you're not squicked out I could post it to you to have a poke at. Obviously you don't have to use it :)

No thanks. I think I'm happy without it for the time being. I like being lazy =p

I was going to comment about Mooncup too. I know someone else who uses one and loves it, but I'm not sure I quite get how it works etc and whether I'd be able to cope with it.

afaik the information on their main website is really useful with the mooncups. alternatively you can come and have a poke at mine when you're in huddersfield - like i say, it's barely been used, and been boiled since (and sat around collecting dust since then), though if that puts you off of course it's your choice :)
