What in the seven hells? (Do you know, I actually swear that way? I blame it on reading "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" when I was a teenager.)

I never got into Discworld, even though many have told me it is right up my alley. I should try one day.

Also, that's 3 hours from my friend [livejournal.com profile] emerlion, who I am supposed to find a reason to visit...

:) I knew I'd heard the phrase before, which must've influenced my choice when someone asked how many helz (my nickname at the time) I was... that's that explained then :)

I recommend starting with one of the early-ish books, but not the first two. Mort is a good one; I started with Soul Music, which may appeal for obvious reasons; and the recent stuff is witty and satirical, if perhaps a touch close to home.

(a friend in high school hated pratchett because "it's just taking other stories and telling them in different ways"... um, parody? also, not all the books are parody, so... cheers for that o_O)

Perhaps. It might show up in other contexts.
FYI: The seven hells of a-Jeroth are: desert, rain, pestilence, fertility, war, savagery, darkness

How many circles did Dante's hell have? Was it seven or nine?
