In the vein oflibellum 's sexism: every little helps tag and this post which she recently linked to, an incident I believe I didn't mention at the time; we went running in town a few months ago; must've been a night out for some people, and as we ran past a shitty club - D was ahead of me, a little - some guys shouted something unintelligible at him, and then at me - and one tried to grab my arm.

Joggers get shouted at, smiled at, spoken to about what they're doing, stared at, or ignored. Apparently they occasionally get grabbed too. Now maybe this wasn't sexist, maybe they wanted to ask us something and he was too far past by this point, maybe because I'm smaller it seemed like less of a risk to grab me than him. Either way, three tall(ish) guys were crowded round and one of them grabbed at a small delicate looking person in daft clothes.

Said small delicate looking person had no idea what they wanted, broke away and rejoined tall strong looking person she was with. Tall strong looking person stuck two fingers up at tall(ish) guys and off we jogged.

What gets me is not really the incident in particular, but that at the time it bothered me, and then I put it out of my mind. Nothing I can do about it, not that out of the ordinary anyway. But why? Why do people act in a threatening manner? Are they just stupid or drunk enough not to have a clue what they seem like from the outside?
