Didn't think I was playing well over holidays so spent some time going back to the basics on sound, production, embouchure and breathing. To balance up I should probably now do some tonguing & fingering prac... but then again we got back into band and i thought, hey i actually sound really good :)
euphonium choir met, we had the SOMP composers in asking interesting questions about intonation and range and etc. have promised to make a chart of different fingerings, and if i experiment a bit to find out which way the pitch bends - match it up with harmonic series stuff - that could be useful for us too.
looking a pieces in lesson, the hartley is not quite ready - i need to be really really warmed up for it to be smooth and controlled and supported throughout, and also i need not just to relax but to breathe big. it'll be good...
dave looked atwhat i was meant to be doing for recital and we scrubbed off a couple of pieces, namely voice (unless we get an improved & lengthened version pretty soon) and introduction et danse. mostly because it's poo, but also because it's poo. couple of pieces we might put in, dave's going to email me one and reckons the library might have the other under bass trom, will check that out. also there's soliloquy IX to think about, which i forgot to mention. i didn't like it at first but i've looked at it again and suggested to philip thomas that i take it to him, might be able to get some help on understanding it... so could be good :)
