EVERY SINGLE THING about Lily Allen enrages me. She's clearly a spoiled little rich girl (aka twat) singing about an entirely made up poor childhood. She is the enemy of everything which is good and pure. And has a very smackable face.

I bought some really nice underwear from Primark the other day. A matching bra and knicker set for £5! That can't be right.

i really don't like shopping there, myself. i went in with the protection of my flatmates, and didn't spend very much; bought a couple of black strappy tops and underwear. i honestly don't last five minutes in there on my own.

Neither my bank account nor my conscience lasts five minutes in there. At one point I spent £30 just on pants - but then I think about how it's all obviously made in sweatshops, and feel bad.....but *then* I think about how you'd get the same quality stuff, almost certainly made the same way, in M+S, for about four times the price, so you might as well save the money. It is an Ethical Minefield.

okay, i've thought about this, and worked out what bothers me about it:

1. Why does an artist's music have to be about themselves? Western classical music is full of songs written by men for women to sing...

2. Allen's music has obviously struck a chord with a lot of people. Even if she is pretending to be poor, isn't that better than posh people not giving a fuck about other people's problems?

3. Not many of her songs are actually about her childhood, or poverty. One of them is about clubbing, which is fun and a fairly universal experience.

4. Your point about her being spoiled may be true, but it assumes that I've paid enough attention to her personal life etc to notice. I haven't - I find the music quite interesting and the lyrics catchy. Before all this, I only knew she had an ugly myspace page, and although I consider that a fairly good reason to avoid someone, it's not the end of the world, is it?

I'm annoyed at myself for liking pop, but I do think it's a little more original than a lot of what's out there. At least it's not Girls Aloud or Sugababes.
