Hair today, gone tomorrow...

Nobody makes assumptions about guys who grow their hair long, yet those of us ladies who are friends with the clippers are naturally pigeon-holed as making gay or political statements? Why is this? I have neither the time nor the inclination to faff with rollers, hair straighteners or "product," so if I want to whizz it all off with the clippers, so be it. It's my choice (terrifying hair straightener factoid... In the last year there has been a 74% increase in people admitted to burns units as a result of coming into contact with hair straighteners, mostly children trying to copy mummy and grabbing the hot plates with both hands)
I also happen to work for the Community Welfare end of a regional fire service. One of the less pleasant jobs we get to do is clearing houses where the occupant has been engaging in compulsive hoarding, because it is a fire risk. It's common to come out of those jobs with flea and tick bites (if we had to clear the gardens of junk as well.) Lasses I work with who have long hair are coming out of those gigs itching and scratching and taking home "lodgers" with them. There is no room for fleas at MY tonsorial inn.
I like my hair. Or lack of it. My friends are used to it. It saves me the hair in the plug hole scenario, I don't have stray hairs clinging to my clothing or getting in my food when I cook (hate finding a long hair in my food)and in the mornings I can literally wash, and go. I'm sure long hair is very lovely and I love seeing a head of lovely thick hair on a lass, but if you're going to keep your locks PLEASE dress your hair nicely and make the most of it, instead of just leaving it hanging there.
I actually shaved it all off for charity a couple of Christmases ago. I actually liked having no hair at all. Might go back to that one, if we ever get a summer!!!
