http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article329176.eceit seems to me that all the articles on issues like this are somewhat unfulfilled. they report some statistic but make no comment on the possible attitudes leading to such behaviour, or any actions, taken or possible, to stop such problems. this could be because it would make the articles very long indeed, or very one sided... but it still annoys me. there's also a general implication of "the youth of today are just a bad lot". which may well be true, but as a member of said youth, i'm still offended by the generalisations.
the front page article i read in the independent on sunday "compact" (has anyone else noticed the tabloid layout, i wonder?) today claimed that "36% of fifteen year olds have tried cannabis or cocaine".
because trying something is as bad as taking it regularly, and of course those drugs are so comparable. also please note that nicotine and ecstasy went completely unmentioned.
newspapers are very odd things.
